Android Auto removes some barriers and limitations drivers face when wishing to access smartphone apps. With Android Auto, the phone connects to the vehicle’s display screen and sound system. With hands-free commands, a driver could “ask” a smartphone for GPS directions and get them. And there’s more than Android Auto can do.

Android Auto intended, in part, to provide a safer way for drivers to access their phone’s features. Texting while driving is dangerous and illegal, but dictating a text via Android Auto helps drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

With Android Auto, drivers may listen to music or podcasts, make hands-free phone calls, and take advantage of other apps. Bluetooth technology could eliminate the need to hardwire anything.
